The commitment to peace is one of the main pillars of Swiss foreign policy. Switzerland is involved with civil and military personnel in peace operations of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
The Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) is responsible for these international assignments. We provide Border Guard and Customs personnel for peacekeeping missions. These specialists are tasked with supporting, training and accompanying local customs and border guard staff. This involvement in the creation of customs and border guard structures in regions hit by crises is of interest to Switzerland in terms of foreign and security policy. By deploying experts, we help protect the Swiss population.
