New import provisions for plant material

Effective from 1 January 2020, only pineapples, bananas, dates, durian and coconuts, as well as plants with phytosanitary certification may be brought to Switzerland from non-EU countries. This also applies to goods sent from abroad. All other plants, parts of plants, fruit, vegetables, cut flowers and seeds are subject to an import ban. The less stringent regime for personal use no longer applies.

Packages not being "Retained/Held by Customs"

Currently, many people who track goods they have ordered online to Switzerland see the shipment status "Your item is being retained/held in Customs". This is misleading wording on the part of courier companies and/or online shops. Your parcel has not been seized and is not in our possession, it is currently to be found in the standard customs clearance process, either with Swiss Post or a courier company.
