Privacy statement for Via

In the following privacy statement, we explain what data is collected and processed when you use the Via App and the Via Portal, as well as the purpose.

Data collection: what data is collected?

The Via App and Via Portal collect and transmit the following data to the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security FOCBStransmit

Data necessary to operate

  • Vehicle type (according to vehicle registration document [e.g. campervan or bus])
  • Vehicle weight (generally according to heading F2 of the vehicle registration document)
  • Duration of stay in Switzerland (date of entry to departure) or selection of 10 individual days
  • Your email address
  • The iOS or Android version (on your smartphone or tablet)
  • The App version
  • The point in time at which the user accepted the terms of use
  • The language used

Anonymised usage data only when using the Via Portal

  • Browser Version
  • Via Portal Version

Anonymised usage data (Dynatrace) only when using the Via App

  • Device information – model/software version
  • Device status – battery status, RAM usage
  • Connection information: IP address (anonymised), mobile phone standard (WLAN/4G/3G/...)
  • The point in time at which use of the app started

Only with the user's consent (Dynatrace) only when using the Via App

  • Crash reports (technical data when the app crashes or the payment process fails)
  • Duration of each use of the app
  • Time taken to purchase a ticket
  • Time spent using the information available in the app before a ticket is purchased
  • Whether a ticket was forwarded
  • Whether the QR code was opened
  • Whether the shopping cart was abandoned

The user can adjust the transmission of this data at any time under "Information" in the app.

Data processing

Data is processed in compliance with data protection legislation. The collected data is kept for a maximum of six years from the date of collection. It is destroyed after expiry of the retention period, unless it is archived. Archiving is governed by the Archiving Act of 26 June 1998 (SR 152.1).

Permissions (access rights)

The collected data is accessible to FOCBS employees. The system developers of the Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication, and external system administrators have access to the data where necessary.

Transmission of personal data to third parties

Unless otherwise provided, the FOCBS treats any information that is not generally known as confidential. In principle, third parties do not have access. However, the FOCBS reserves the right to disclose personal data to the relevant authorities, in particular in the context of administrative and mutual assistance requests.

Responsibilities

All disputes arising in connection with the use of the Via app are subject exclusively to Swiss law. The place of jurisdiction is Bern.
